Arson Confirmed at Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence; Shapiro Family Evacuated Safely

Fire during Passover celebrations causes significant damage; authorities offer reward for information
In the early hours of April 13, 2025, a fire broke out at the official residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro in Harrisburg.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m., shortly after the governor and his family had celebrated the first night of Passover.

The Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the fire was an act of arson.

Governor Shapiro, his wife Lori, and their four children were safely evacuated by state police after being alerted to the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The fire caused significant damage to a portion of the residence, particularly an area used for events and art displays.

The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire responded promptly to extinguish the blaze.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the arson and are conducting an ongoing investigation.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

The Pennsylvania Governor's Residence, a 29,000-square-foot Georgian-style mansion completed in 1968, has served as the home for eight governors and their families.

Governor Shapiro, who took office in January 2023, currently resides there with his family.
