Trump Rebukes Bill Maher on Truth Social After White House Dinner, Calls Meeting a "Total Waste of Time"

Former president criticises HBO host’s post-dinner commentary and renews public feud over media coverage
Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday to sharply criticise television host Bill Maher, describing their past White House meeting as a “total waste of time” and renewing a longstanding public feud.

Trump’s remarks follow comments by Maher defending his critiques of the former president.

Trump noted that Maher had requested a dinner at the White House last year, which Trump agreed to, but said the host’s subsequent television commentary failed to recognise the administration’s achievements.

The former president characterised Maher as “highly overrated” and said he regretted giving him time in the Oval Office, asserting that the conversation did not yield constructive discussion.

In his post, Trump recounted what he said was Maher’s nervous demeanour during the meeting and criticised the late-night host for resuming anti-Trump commentary on his HBO show afterwards.

Trump highlighted policy successes including border security, economic performance and reductions in crime, implying that these accomplishments were overlooked in Maher’s public statements.

Maher had referenced the dinner in media appearances, defending his decision to accept the invitation and emphasising that he continued to critique Trump’s policies afterwards.

He argued that attending the event did not diminish his independence as a commentator.

The exchange underscores the often combative relationship between Trump and media figures.

Trump has previously labelled Maher “overrated” and accused him of suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome,” a term often used by Trump supporters to describe intense media criticism of his policies and leadership style.

Maher’s commentary has at times drawn rebukes from Trump, including over segments critiquing Trump’s political decisions.

The feud reflects broader tensions between political leaders and media personalities who blend entertainment with political analysis.

Despite past cordial elements of their interaction, including Trump’s initial invitation to Maher, the public remarks by both figures signal continuing disagreement over media coverage and political discourse.
