U.S. Deputy Secretary Verma Holds Key Talks with Serbian Leadership on Stability and Economic Cooperation

Discussions focus on U.S.-Serbia relations, support for Serbia's EU aspirations, and strengthening economic ties.
Deputy Secretary of State Richard R. Verma met today with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, and other senior officials in Belgrade, underscoring the growing importance of U.S.-Serbia relations in the context of regional peace, stability, and economic cooperation.

The meeting highlighted both the shared strategic interests between the two countries and Serbia's aspirations for European Union membership.

During the talks, Deputy Secretary Verma emphasized the pivotal role that Serbia plays in the region, particularly in efforts to secure peace and stability in Ukraine.

With the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe, the United States has been actively seeking to engage with Serbia to foster cooperation on regional security issues.

In addition to political and security matters, the discussions also focused on expanding economic ties.

Verma noted the growing U.S.-Serbia partnership, particularly in energy, telecommunications, and technology sectors, which have seen increasing investment from American companies in recent years.

Both sides recognized the potential for further collaboration as Serbia continues its development and modernization efforts.

The U.S. has also reiterated its support for Serbia’s progress on its path towards European Union membership.

Although Serbia has yet to join the EU, its relationship with the U.S. is seen as vital in ensuring its alignment with Western democratic values and economic practices as it moves closer to EU accession.

As Deputy Secretary Verma continues his engagement with Serbian leaders, the U.S. is committed to helping Serbia navigate the challenges ahead, promoting both political stability and economic growth.

The visit marks another step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations, which continues to evolve against the backdrop of regional and global challenges.
